Scarlett's Pseudo Haircut

 Today both Christian and I had hair appointments at the salon.   Scarlett expressed an interest in having her hair cut, and our hairdresser happily played along.

We were so shocked at the difference between Scarlett and Christian at this age.  When he was two, Christian was screaming bloody murder when getting his haircut, but Scarlett sat there ever-so-calmly, and even looked back to see her reflection in the mirror.

We had just been telling our hairdresser about how Scarlett does not let us put her hair in ponytails, and so that is exactly what she did - a ponytail.  And Scarlett let her.  What fun!

Scarlett's Second Time Out

Ah, Miss Scarlett.  She intentionally hit Christian in the head was hurting hard enough to make him cry. She shows no remorse, and giggled when I tried to tell her it was wrong. So she paid a visit to timeout. Actually did pretty well, and stayed seated for most of it.

But when I wouldn't let her up until time was ready, she got mad. :)

Scarlett's Official Easter Portraits

Here is the beautiful Miss Scarlett at 27 months!   I am so delighted with these pictures because she is actually SMILING!   Scarlett is not a girl who smiles on cue, so these pictures are great!

A Sick - and Smart - Little Scarlett

Our poor Scarlett was sick overnight.  She had been lethargic in the evening,  which I attributed to an earlier-than-usual nap.  But later in the evening, she threw up twice and she had a bit of a fever.

Scarlett is doing a bit better this morning, as she has not thrown up. And her temperature is just under 100. Right now she is laying on the couch watching the Prince of Egypt.

And that brings me to the "smart" part of this post.

Late last night, she was Sleepless and I brought her to the living room for a few minutes. Jonathan and I had been watching the series "The Bible." I had paused the TV when I went to get her and  when we came out, a small icon from series was up on the screen.

And I asked Scarlett what she wanted to watch, and she said "The Bible."  I was amazed because she had not seen the series icon before.   She READ the words.

Jonathan reminded me that Christian was reading at this same age. However we have been unable to work with Scarlett on her reading the way we did with Christian all those years ago.

What a smart girl we have!

A Little Bible Reading at Dinner

Tonight I was reading Bible stories to Christian and Scarlett at the dinner table. Christian was done with dinner and ran off to do other things. Scarlett wanted to hold the Bible herself. 

She looked through the Bible asking where Moses was. This afternoon we had watched The Prince if Egypt, so Moses was fresh on hers mind. As she was looking at the Bible, she put her hands together to pray and saod a prayer I didn't quite understand. It was absolutely precious!

 

Scarlett's First Timeout

Scarlett just got her first-ever timeout. As is always the case, she is handling it way differently than Christian ever did. He always - and still does - accepted his timeout with compliance and quietness. Scarlett is having an absolute meltdown. So glad Jonathan is handling this first one.

She was hitting our dog, Bella, who was being very tolerant of the situation. But ... you never know when a dog will snap - oh, the stories we see on the news!!! We don't want to be one of them!!  "Family dog mauls toddler, is put down."   That sort of thing ... :(.

Jonathan firmly told her "no" twice and the third time she did it and he said no, she stuck out her tongue, made a zerbert and giggled ... and all of that landed her in her first time out. Hitting the dog, not listening and the defiant gesture was enough for Jonathan. I just stayed in the kitchen cooking, thankful he was taking care of it.

Now that the first time out has happened, I predict she'll be spending lots of time there. She loves to walk over to Christian and pull his hair - hard! She loves the pained reaction he gives, so she laughs and does it more ... ugh. She is sooooo much more of a difficult child than Christian ever was.

Scarlett and the Ladybug

Today Scarlett discovered a blue marker (on her face) and a ladybug.  I think this might have been the first time she's seen a ladybug that wasn't one of Mommy's cookie designs - ha!

She was so curious and not at all scared (Christian, on the other hand, was somehow frightened by the ladybug.  Go figure ... ).

A Really Windy Day

Another Morning at Goddard

This morning, Scarlett spend some more time at The Goddard School. Jonathan and I had to tend to our IRS audit (oh what fun!), so is Scarlett got to go have fun with kids her own age, rather than sit in a three hour long appointment with us. She is one lucky girl!

Just because ...

How the Tiny Fall ...

Our tiny Scarlett is a climber ... a little monkey.  And she has no fear ... she'll try just about anything.

On Sunday, she fell off a barstool at swimming lessons and landed right on her head.  She had been sitting at the counter, and stood up on the chair, and CRASH onto the right side of her head and face.   It was awful!

 

Flash forward to yesterday. She and I were at Sam's Club and she was in the basket part of the shopping cart (because she refuses to sit in the front seat, and she can't walk around when it is just she and I together - she is too much of a wanderer).   I stopped to look at a display of books and Scarlett stood up, reached over to get a book and fell right out of the card and onto hear head.

 

 

(Amusing side story:  As I was comforting Scarlett, and elderly man walked up to us, held his arms towards Scarlett and said, "Oh honey, what do you want?  I'll buy it for you!"   HA!  I told him she'd actually just fallen. and he went on to ask me if I was her mother or her grandmother.  WHAT????)

 

On our way to get Christian from school, I called her pediatrician's office to see what I should do.  I was concerned about a concussion, and the person on the phone suggested I head to the ER.    Well, I HAD to get Christian from school, there was nobody else who could.  So I rushed to get him, all the while trying to keep Scarlett awake, still concerned about the concussion.

 

We made our way to a new and nearby Phoenix Children's Hospital Urgent Care, only to discover they were only Urgent Care from 5:00pm - 11:00pm.  Ugh!   A nurse came out to talk to me about Scarlett, who by then was playing with Christian and acting just fine.

 

Jonathan arrived and we took the kiddos to lunch.  Scarlett was never lethargic, never threw up, etc.  She ate her lunch just fine.

 

But I got her into to see her doctor at 6:00pm anyway.  He asked where in the cart she was located and said, "In the part where you're not supposed to put them because they might fall out?"   My reply, "Yes, that's the one."    And then he told me he puts his kiddos in the cart that way, too ... so I felt better.

 

Scarlett was a star during her exam!  Her doctor tried to feel her skull through the large knot in her head, but could not.  So he ordered an xray for today.

 

I must say, the most uncomfortable part of the exam was when he said, "I am just going to look to see if there are any more bruises."  Ugh ... I knew what he was doing ... looking for signs of abuse.  And I know he's obligated to do that, but it just made me so sad.  We don't even spank our children.

 

Scarlett really surprised me today with her head xray. She was absolutely perfect, she laid absolutely still and did not make a fuss at all!

The technicians commented several times on how impressive her behavior was. They said they'd never had a young child be so calm, and suggested she come back and show other kids how to act.

One technician gave Scarlett one sticker for being so good, and another came running out, insisting she get three more stickers because of her great behavior.

Whose child was THAT? Certainly not mine!  ;)

We are waiting on the results of the xray, but I feel in my heart that she is just fine!!

 

 

 



Scarlett's Morning at Goddard

It was tax day, so Scarlett got to spend the morning at Goddard (because she's gone with us to H&R Block in the past, and it is very stressful trying to keep her occupied).  

 

She did great until it was time to go ... and then she REALLY wanted to go, and made sure we knew it!

 

 

 

  

Trike Time!

Scarlett is almost tall enough to reach the pedals on Christian's tricycle.  Almost.  Her toes can barely get to them.

 

But she loves to have Jonathan push her around on the trike!

We went to the zoo today with a group of friends.  These days, Miss Scarlett does not like to sit in her stroller ... she'd rather be out and about.

 

But, she is willing to hop onto the end and take a ride.

Scarlett's 2 Year Doctor Visit

 

Scarlett once again really impressed us with her calmness during today's doctor visit.  She didn't fus once!

 

Though she is still very small, not even on the charts.  And she's still just a mere 19 lbs.  We discussed the two gastroenterologist visits we've had, and how they seem rather pointless.  So Dr. Pyle ordered some blood work to rule out any problems (which should have been done to begin with, in my opinion).   And the paperwork noted that if the blood work comes back negative, then he'll just attribute her petite size to genetics.  

 

Can I get an amen?!?

 

Scarlett impressed us even more when she didn't fuss one little bit - not even a peep - when she had her blood drawn.  The tech took four vials, which took a bit of time and Scarlett sat there and watched patiently.
