Scarlett's Three Year Old Well-Child Exam

Today Scarlett had her three year well-child exam and while she is meeting (and exceeding in some cases) her developmental milestones, she is still extremely petite.   A while back, her pediatrician sent us to a pediatric gastroenterologist, which didn't get us much.  So her doc ran some blood work to rule out a few causes for her petite stature ... and everything came back normal and he chalked up her size to genetics.

Today's exam showed Scarlett is still a very tiny 22 lbs (she is small, but mighty!).  And she hasn't gained much weight at all since her well-child exam a year ago.

So we've been referred back to the gastroenterologist, and I assume they will do something other than tell us to increase her food intake.  She eats all day long, so it is definitely not a lack of calories.

We're also being sent to a pediatric endocrinologist.

But aside from all that about her petite size, she's healthy and doing fabulously!

And we selected ...

Here are the glasses we picked for Scarlett!  The sides are super cute and colorful!

Don't mistake her smiley face for excitement about her glasses.  I was just really lucky to get a smile when I pushed the camera button.

The glasses should arrive in two weeks.  I, too, am getting new glasses shortly - good timing.  I have started to wear my current pair of glasses on a regular basis, and tell Scarlett how much I love them.  Hoping that will help

Scarlett Needs Glasses

Our precious Scarlett needs glasses.   We learned one eye is significantly worse than the other (+2 on one side, +4 on the other).   That means one eye is working really hard for both eyes, so we need to get that corrected ASAP.

Since Scarlett loves to go into the Target Vision Center and play with glasses, I was expecting she'd enjoy the search for glasses and be excited about them.

Nope.

Not at all.

So many glasses to choose from and I am certain she won't want to wear any of them.   She did really well at her eye exam and the doctor said in her experience kiddos who do well in the exam do well with actually wearing glasses.

Ah, she doesn't know our Scarlett.

Below are some of the glasses we have looked at.

Lil' Kickers

Our playgroup got together for a free class at Lil' Kickers - an indoor soccer place for little kids.  Scarlett had fun until she decided she was done.  And with Scarlett, done is DONE.

Our Lemon Bounty

Scarlett is really impressed with our lemon bounty this year (and so am I!).  This is just one "batch" of lemons from our tree!

"Muddy Puddles"

Scarlett's favorite show is "Peppa Pig."   And, Pepoa loves to jump in muddy puddles.  We didn't have any mud, but we had lots of rain ... And Scarlett delighted in the smallest of puddles!

Scarlett Returns to Swimming Lessons

We decided that once Scarlett turned three, it was time to start swimming lessons again.

And she was NOT having it.

She screamed bloody murder from the moment we walked into the dressing room to get her suit on.  When we emerged, I felt like every eye in the place was on us - so embarrassing!    She screamed as I took her to the pools, screamed when they put her in - it was awful.

I had warned them she'd be a tough one.   So they brought in a second instructor for her class.   He took the other two kiddos, and the regular instructor stayed with Scarlett and was so sweet with her.

As the final 10 minutes of class approached, Scarlett had calmed down and was having fun - what a relief!

Because she had celebrated her birthday just a few days earlier, she was given a lollypop after her lesson.   And that lollypop made everything all better. :)

Scarlett and her big, poofy hair ... and lots of tears and screaming!

Farewell to "I do."

Ah this little Princess ... I love her so!

She is growing and changing before my eyes.  And fast!  She'll be three in a few short weeks!!

Since she's been able to speak, her affirmative response to a question has always been, "I do."

"Scarlett, do you want to go for a ride?"   "I do."

"Scarlett, did you have fun at church?"   "I do."

"Scarlett, let's go potty."   "I do."

"Scarlett, do you want a banana?"   "I do."

And so on.

And oh-my-goodness, it is so cute.  She's got a distinct voice she uses for "I do" and everybody who hears her give that response thinks it is adorable.

But since she started going to school twice a week, she's been picking up on language cues.  And she slowly started to say "Es" (yes) as her affirmative response to questions.  And now ... there is hardly an "I do" in her vocabulary.

And I cannot tell a lie:  it makes me sad.  :(

Scarlett's First Dental Exam

Today was Scarlett's first-ever dental exam and she was pretty excited!  She is always envious when Christian goes to the dentist and hops into his chair when he's done.   So it was finally her turn!

First up was video games with Papa in the lobby!

Then we went back to the exam room.   And she was still pretty perky!

And she handled the cleaning well, until ... the suction thingy go "stuck" on her cheek.

And then whoooo ... all the tears!

While waiting for the dentist to take a look, Scarlett got to pick out a toy ...

And brush the crocodile's teeth ...

And then the dentist came to do the final exam, and Scarlett was not happy.  The poor kiddo!

And we learned that because Scarlett still nurses overnight (long story), that means milk pools in her mouth all night and there are some areas the dentist will be watching on Scarlett's teeth.   Ugh!

The Big Girl Bed is Coming!

With Scarlett's third birthday fast approaching, the time has come to transition her from her crib (which is still just a foot away from our bed - big lesson learned there!) to a "Big Girl Bed."

While out looking for mattresses the other day, we came across this official Cinderella's Pumpkin Coach bed.

Oh. My. Goodness.

Scarlett and I were in love.  Absolutely in love!

I must say that if this bed came in a king size, I would totally get it for myself (and um, for Jonathan).

Scarlett's crib converts to a full sized bed, so we won't be getting this fun Disney bed for her.   But we could certainly dream! :)

We now have a mattress, and we are just waiting for the bed rails to arrive ...and then its SHOWTIME!

The Hello Kitty Dream

Scarlett is still in out bedroom - either in her crib a foot away from the bed, or in our bed.

We are eager to convert her crib to a full-sized bed and at least move her to another corner of the room.

We were at Babies R' Us and came across this adorable Hello Kitty bedroom set!!  We love Hello Kitty!!

We won't be getting it, as her crib converts to a really nice looking bed.   And at some point, she'd outgrow the Hello Kitty look.  So getting this set isn't practical, but it sure is fun ... and she loved it!
