Scarlett Graduates from The Goddard School

It finally happened:   the Lucero Family has graduated from our beloved Goddard School here in Verrado.  We've loved sending both kids here for their preschool years!  Scarlett gets to stick around for a few more weeks, until kindergarten starts (which is awesome, because I'm not quite ready to have both kids home all day, every day ... I gotta work up to that bravery!)

Scarlett is Perfectly Petite!

After years of doctors' concerns regarding Scarlett's very petite size (she almost 5 and weighs just 28+/- pounds ... And is about the size of a large 2 year old), we finally have an answer of sorts:

Her new endocrinologist ordered a bone scan to determine the "age" of Scarlett's bones.  And her conclusion is that Scarlett's growth is delayed 1 - 1.5 years, and that her bones are that of a 3 - 3.6 year old.   Her growth chart will be adjusted to reflect the growth rate of a 3 year old girl, rather than a (nearly) 5 year old girl.

I hope this new information will remove the "failure to thrive" label from her medical record.  This girl is not failing to thrive at anything!

And I am thrilled that the endocrinologist simply wants to see her again in a year (rather than the six months she originally requested), and there was NO mention of growth hormones.  Whew!!!

Her projected height when she is full-grown is 4' 11". :)

So now we can carry on with our Perfectly Petite Princess ... Free of medical intervention!!!

Scarlett's First Day of Pre-K

Today is Scarlett's first day in "Pre-K."   It isn't much of a transition ... she is at the same school on the same days, for the same amount of time.   She just moved to a new classroom with a new teacher.

Hard to believe this tiny little girl will be starting kindergarten next year!   She is still the size of a big two year old!

Croup Returns to the Lucero Household

Overall, we are blessed to have healthy kiddos.   Until now, croup has only paid one visit to our home - Christian.   This week, it has returned to spend time with Scarlett. 

The first order of business was a doc visit and oral steroids (which she downed like a champ!).   The next order of business was to spend the night in a recliner, since croup is worse at night when a child is laying flat.  

Keeping her upright did the trick - she slept peacefully with little coughing!  And, of course, Hello Kitty joined in on the action. :)

Scarlett kept insisting she wanted to be Buzz Lightyear for Halloween.

As a mommy who LOVES to make Scarlett as girlie as possible at all times, I kept making other costume suggestions.     But, Scarlett immediately found this adorable Buzz Lightyear costume for GIRLS!   

Alas, it was too big for her, so I didn't buy it.   Which is too bad, because I had many friend offer to alter the dress when they saw this picture.

It warmed my heart today when Scarlett (3) - on her own - chose to wear her new AZ Cardinals t-shirt ... and she was so very proud of it!
